John and Mary Foley were born somewhere in Ireland. (Family lore has it that they were from County Cork however I have not found any evidence to support or refute this.) They were married in Ireland and their children were born there, the youngest in 1839. However, the family appears in the 1851 census of Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and two of the children appear to have married in Newcastle in 1849. This descendancy report contains four generations including their great grandson, James.
